How to Download X Spaces Before They Disappear

By offmylawn · Published January 12, 2025 · Updated September 25, 2026

X Spaces are live audio conversations, and X has no download button for them. Whether you can listen again later depends on a choice the host makes, and on whether they keep the recording. This guide explains when a Space can be saved, how to save one as an MP3, how long it takes, and what the common errors mean. The figures come from about 1,800 Spaces saved with this tool in September 2026.

When a Space Can Be Saved

There are three situations, and they behave differently:

A recorded Space can still disappear. The host can delete the recording, delete the post that shared it, or lose their account. If a Space matters to you, save it soon rather than counting on the replay.

How to Download a Space

  1. Copy the link. Either the Space link (it looks like x.com/i/spaces/1ABC…) or the link to a post that shares the Space both work. In the app, tap the share icon and choose Copy link. In our data, about 900 Space requests arrived as ordinary post links, and the downloader followed them to the Space.
  2. Paste it into the downloader. Space links automatically download as MP3, so there is no format to choose.
  3. Wait for it to finish. The progress card shows whether the job is queued, downloading, recording a live Space, or converting. You can refresh the page; it reconnects to the same job.
  4. Save the file. The download starts automatically. You can also play it in the page first. Files are deleted from our server about an hour after they are ready.

How Long It Takes and How Big the File Is

Across all Spaces saved in our sample, the median download took about 2.4 minutes, and 90% finished within about 20 minutes. Most of that time is spent converting the audio to MP3. Longer Spaces take longer. Live Spaces take as long as they stay on air; the longest recording in our sample ran 11.5 hours. Spaces can record for up to 12 hours on this site.

Spaces are saved as 192 kbps MP3, which is about 86 MB per hour of audio. The median Space download was 103 MB (roughly 72 minutes). One in ten was over 327 MB, or more than three and a half hours. If you plan to keep many Spaces, budget about 1 GB for every 12 hours of audio.

Common Errors and What They Mean

More fixes are in the step-by-step guide.

Saving Spaces Responsibly

Speakers in a Space are talking to a live audience, not necessarily to a permanent archive. Save Spaces you hosted, spoke in, or have permission to keep, or ones you may lawfully use where you live, such as for research, reporting, or accessibility. Don't re-upload other people's conversations without permission. If you want to share a Space, link to the original while it is still available.

Once you have the MP3, name it with the date and the host (for example 2026-09-24_host-name_topic.mp3) and keep a backup. Our archiving guide covers folder layouts and the 3-2-1 backup rule.
