How to Save X Videos on Any Device

By offmylawn · Published March 5, 2025

X (formerly Twitter) is home to millions of videos, from breaking news clips and sports highlights to tutorials and creative content. But X doesn't offer a built-in download button for videos, which can be frustrating when you want to save something for offline viewing. The good news is that downloading X videos is straightforward on any device once you know the steps. This guide walks you through the process on every major platform.

The Universal Method

The simplest approach works across all devices and operating systems. Since X Media Downloader is a web-based tool, all you need is a browser. Here's the process that works everywhere:

  1. Find the video you want to download on X
  2. Copy the tweet URL (the link to the post containing the video)
  3. Open X Media Downloader in your browser
  4. Paste the URL and click Download
  5. The video will download as an MP4 file

This method works on any device with a web browser and internet connection. The video downloads in its original quality, typically as an MP4 file that plays on virtually any device or media player.

Saving Videos on iPhone and iPad

Step 1: Copy the Tweet Link

Open the X app or website on your iPhone. Find the tweet with the video you want to save. Tap the share icon (the arrow pointing up from a box) at the bottom of the tweet. Select "Copy Link" from the share menu. The URL is now on your clipboard.

Step 2: Download the Video

Open Safari and navigate to X Media Downloader. Paste the URL you copied into the download box and tap Download. Wait for the progress bar to complete. When done, the file will begin downloading.

Step 3: Find Your File

On iOS, downloaded files typically go to the Files app under "Downloads" or to your Safari downloads. You can access your downloads by tapping the download arrow icon in Safari's address bar. From there, you can move the video to your Photos app by tapping the share button and selecting "Save Video."

Tip:

If you're running iOS 13 or later, Safari handles downloads natively. For older iOS versions, you may need to use a third-party browser that supports file downloads.

Saving Videos on Android

Step 1: Copy the Tweet Link

Open the X app on your Android device. Find the tweet with the video, tap the share icon, and select "Copy Link." Alternatively, you can tap the three-dot menu on the tweet and look for a copy link option.

Step 2: Download the Video

Open Chrome or your preferred browser and go to X Media Downloader. Paste the URL and tap Download. Chrome will handle the file download automatically.

Step 3: Find Your File

Downloaded videos land in your device's Downloads folder. You can find them through the Files app, the Downloads notification, or by opening your Gallery app, which usually picks up new video files automatically. Some Android devices also show a download notification in the notification shade that you can tap to open the file directly.

Saving Videos on Windows

Step 1: Copy the Tweet Link

Open X in any web browser on your Windows PC. Navigate to the tweet containing the video, click on the tweet to open it, and copy the URL from your browser's address bar. You can also use the share button on the tweet and select "Copy Link."

Step 2: Download the Video

In a new tab, go to X Media Downloader. Paste the URL and click Download. The progress bar will show the download status. When complete, the file downloads through your browser's standard download process.

Step 3: Find Your File

By default, files download to your Downloads folder (C:\Users\YourName\Downloads). You can change this in your browser settings. The video saves as an MP4 file, which plays natively in Windows Media Player, Movies & TV app, or any video player like VLC.

Saving Videos on Mac

Step 1: Copy the Tweet Link

Open X in Safari, Chrome, or Firefox on your Mac. Find the tweet with the video, click on it, and copy the URL from your address bar. On macOS, Command+C copies the selected URL.

Step 2: Download the Video

Navigate to X Media Downloader, paste the URL with Command+V, and click Download. The file will download through your browser.

Step 3: Find Your File

Downloaded files appear in your Downloads folder, accessible from the Dock or Finder. MP4 files play in QuickTime Player, which comes pre-installed on all Macs. You can also add them to your Apple TV app library for organized viewing.

Tips for the Best Results

Understanding Video Quality

X stores videos at multiple quality levels and serves different versions based on your connection speed and device. When you download through our tool, you get the highest quality version available. Most X videos are available in 720p or 1080p, though some may be lower depending on how the uploader posted them. The downloaded MP4 file preserves whatever quality X has available.

GIFs on X are actually stored as short MP4 video files. When you download what appears to be a GIF, you'll receive it as an MP4, which is actually better quality than a traditional GIF format and much smaller in file size. These play as looping videos on most devices.
