"No Downloadable Media Found": Why Some X Links Won't Download

By offmylawn · Published September 25, 2026

If you pasted a link and got "No downloadable X media was found at this URL," you're in good company. It is the single most common error on this site: in our September 2026 log study, it caused 497 of 937 failed downloads, more than half. The good news is that it's almost never a broken tool or a deleted video. It nearly always means the link points somewhere other than the video. Here's how to find the right link.

Quick Check

Open the link you pasted in a browser. If that exact post doesn't show a playable video, GIF, or Space, the downloader won't find one either. Then work through the causes below.

1. The Post Only Has Text or Photos

This downloader saves video, GIFs, Spaces, and broadcasts. Photos aren't supported. Posts with only text or images return this error, and so do links that end in /photo/1. That suffix points to a specific image even when the post also has a video.

Fix: Remove everything after the post number, so x.com/user/status/1234567890/photo/1 becomes x.com/user/status/1234567890. To save a photo, open it on X and use your browser's own save option.

2. You Copied a Reply, Not the Post With the Video

In a thread, the video is usually attached to one specific post. The replies under it don't contain the video, even though they appear right next to it on screen. The same goes for a reply that says "source" or "full video here" and links elsewhere.

Fix: Tap the post that actually shows the video player so that it opens on its own page, then copy that link. The address should end in /status/ followed by a long number.

Quote posts are fine:

If someone quotes a post that has a video, pasting the quote's link still works: the downloader looks inside the quoted post too. Replies are what cause trouble, not quotes.

3. The "Video" Is a Link Preview From Another Site

Some posts show a large preview card for a YouTube video, a news article, or another website. It looks like media on X, but the video lives on the other site. This tool only saves media hosted on X. Links to other sites fail, usually with the error "Download failed. This X media may be unavailable or restricted."

Fix: If a card opens another website when you click it, the video isn't on X.

4. The Video Number Doesn't Exist

Links that end in /video/2 or /video/3 ask for a specific video in a post with several. If there's no video with that number, you'll get "This X media is unavailable or no longer exists." We logged 89 of these errors in five and a half days. Some were wrong numbers. Others were videos removed from posts that are still up, for example after a copyright claim; those can't be downloaded.

Fix: Remove the /video/… suffix and paste the plain post link.

Errors That Look Similar but Mean Something Else

Message What it means
This X media is unavailable or no longer exists. The post was deleted, the account was suspended, or the video number is wrong.
This X media requires authentication or is not publicly available. A protected account, subscriber-only media, or media marked sensitive that X only shows to signed-in users. We never log in, so these can't be saved.
This Space ended without a recording, so there is no replay to download. The host didn't record the Space. See how to tell whether a Space is being recorded.
This media has no audio to convert to MP3. You chose Audio for a silent clip or a GIF. Choose Video.

Still Stuck?

If the video plays on the post's own page, the link has no /photo/ or /video/ suffix, and the account is public, the problem may be ours. Email the link to [email protected] and we'll look into it. More fixes are in the step-by-step guide.
